1. Who is the Beginner Hairstyling Masterclass for?
The Hairstyling Masterclass is designed for complete beginners, emerging hairstylists and working professionals who want to build stronger foundations in hairstyling.
Whether you are starting from the very beginning, have some experience but lack confidence, or have learned through practice without formal foundational training, this masterclass will help you better understand the principles behind creating beautiful, balanced and long-lasting hairstyles.
The focus is not simply on copying a hairstyle, it is about understanding the foundations, techniques and thought process that allow you to approach your work with greater confidence and control.
2. Do I need any previous hairstyling experience?
No previous hairstyling experience is required. The Beginner Hairstyling Masterclass has been designed to start with the foundations and guide you through each technique step by step.
Whether you are completely new to hairstyling or already have some experience but want to strengthen your skills and understanding, you will be supported throughout the two days as you learn and practise each technique.
3. Why is it important to learn the Foundations of Hairstyling?
Strong foundations are the key to becoming a confident and versatile hairstylist. When you understand the fundamentals of hairstyling - from head anatomy, sectioning and product selection to preparation, tool control, balance and structure, you gain the knowledge to understand not only how to create a hairstyle, but why each step matters.
Rather than simply copying a hairstyle step by step, learning the foundations allows you to adapt your techniques to different hair types, textures and lengths. The foundational techniques you learn can also be incorporated into many different hairstyles, giving you the ability to build upon them and create a wider variety of looks.
Once you understand the main foundations, you can begin to become more creative - combining techniques, adapting them and using your knowledge to create hairstyles in your own way. This is what gives you the confidence and freedom to grow as a hairstylist, rather than feeling limited to recreating only the styles you have been shown.
4. What is included in the Beginner Hairstyling Masterclass?
Your two-day masterclass includes a combination of foundational theory, step-by-step demonstrations and hands-on practical training.
Throughout the two days, you will learn the essential foundations of hairstyling, watch each technique demonstrated before practising it yourself, and receive personalised guidance and feedback as you work.
The masterclass has been designed to give you the time to learn, practise and ask questions in a supportive environment, helping you leave with a stronger understanding of hairstyling and greater confidence in your skills.
5. What do I need to bring with me?
Students must bring a human-hair mannequin head (medium to long hair), a stand or holder, and the following tools: a hair straightener, professional hair dryer, and approximately 25 mm curling tong and wand.
Your mannequin must be washed and blow-dried straight before the masterclass, with no products applied. A freestanding stand is recommended.
All students will receive a take-home Hairstyling Goodie Bag with products and tools used throughout the masterclass.
You’re welcome to bring your own hairstyling kit if you have one.

6. Do I need to bring my own model or mannequin?
You do not need to bring a model. All practical work throughout the masterclass will be completed on your own human-hair mannequin head.
Working on a mannequin allows you to focus entirely on learning and practising each technique at your own pace, without the time limitations or discomfort that can come with working on a live model.
Please refer to the equipment requirements above for full details on the type of mannequin head and stand you will need to bring.
7. Will I receive a certificate?
Yes. Upon completion of the two-day masterclass, you will receive a Certificate of Completion from Sydney Hair & Makeup Co Academy.
Your certificate recognises your participation in and completion of the Beginner Hairstyling Masterclass.
8. Do you offer one-on-one training?
Yes. One-on-one training is available for students who prefer a more personalised learning experience and individual guidance.
Private training is tailored to your current skill level, learning goals and the specific areas or techniques you would like to focus on. As one-on-one training is completely personalised and dedicated exclusively to you, it is offered at a higher rate than group masterclasses.

9. Do you offer in salon training?
Yes. In-salon training is available for salons wanting to provide private, hands-on education for their team.
A minimum of four students is required for in-salon training within Sydney, and a minimum of six students is required for interstate bookings.

10. What payment options are available?
Afterpay is available at checkout, allowing you to pay for your booking in instalments.
Full payment of $950 is required to secure your place in the two-day Beginner Hairstyling Masterclass.
11. What happens if I can no long attend?
If you are no longer able to attend, your booking can be transferred to a future masterclass.
Please contact us as soon as possible if your circumstances change so we can arrange the transfer of your booking to the next available date.
12. Will I receive ongoing support after the masterclass?
Yes. Your learning does not end when the masterclass does. After completing the training, you will have access to ongoing support where you can ask questions, seek guidance and receive help as you continue to practise and develop your hairstyling skills.
The more you practise, the more questions may arise, and having continued support can help you work through challenges, build confidence and continue progressing beyond the masterclass.

The Two-Day Beginner Hairstyling Masterclass has been carefully designed by Drew from Sydney Hair & Makeup Co for those who would like to begin or further develop their skills in professional hairstyling.
Strong foundations are an important part of becoming a confident hairstylist. Learning how to properly prepare, plan and work with the hair early in your hairstyling career will help you create cleaner work, improve your techniques and continue developing your skills throughout your career.
Over two intensive days, students will learn essential hairstyling foundations, professional techniques and a range of complete hairstyles. Drew will share the methods, tips and tricks she has developed throughout more than 20 years in the hairstyling industry, with a focus on helping students understand not only how to create a hairstyle, but also how to plan and approach the hair before they begin.
The workshop is fast-paced, practical and hands-on, with step-by-step demonstrations, guidance and individual attention throughout the two days. Students will have the opportunity to practise the techniques and hairstyles taught during the workshop while receiving feedback and assistance from Drew.
The class atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming while still being focused and productive. Students are encouraged to ask questions throughout the workshop - no question is a wrong question.
The aim of this masterclass is for students to walk away with greater confidence, stronger foundations and a wider understanding of professional hairstyling. In addition to learning complete hairstyles, students will gain knowledge about hair preparation, products, tools, techniques and the professional tips and tricks that can help improve the quality and efficiency of their work.

About Your Trainer
Drew from Sydney Hair & Makeup Co is a professional hairstylist with more than 20 years of industry experience and specialises in hairstyling.
Throughout her career, Drew has styled hair for countless weddings and special occasions and has worked across film sets, fashion shows and photoshoots. With extensive professional experience, a strong eye for detail and training undertaken throughout Australia, Drew brings her own techniques, methods and industry knowledge into the classroom.
Throughout the masterclass, Drew will share the techniques, tips, tricks and professional knowledge she has developed over more than two decades in the hairstyling industry.

What Students Need to Bring:
1. Mannequin Head
A human-hair mannequin head with medium to long hair is required. Short-haired mannequins are not suitable, as the hair length will limit the hairstyles you are able to create during the masterclass. All mannequin heads must be washed and blow-dried straight before the masterclass, with no products applied. Students will also need a mannequin head holder. A freestanding mannequin stand is preferable.

2. Hair Straightener
Students are required to bring a hair straightener. Students who have purchased the masterclass can purchase a Sydney Hair & Makeup Co hair straightener at a special student price. Contact us directly at sydneyhairandmakeupco@outlook.com and include your order number in the email to receive the student price. 3. Hair Dryer: A professional hair dryer between 1900 and 2200 watts.
4. Curling Tongs: A curling iron with a clamp that holds the hair in place while curling. Recommended barrel size: approximately 25 mm/1 inch.
5. Curling Wand: A curling tool without a clamp, where the hair is wrapped around the barrel by hand. Recommended barrel size: approximately 25mm/1 inch.
Existing Hairstyling Kit: If you already have a hairstyling kit, you are welcome to bring it with you. Students will be provided with the other necessary hairstyling tools and products in their goodie bag, excluding the hot tools listed above.
WHAT STUDENTS RECEIVE:
1. Hairstyling Goodie Bag: All students will receive a take-home goodie bag containing hairstyling products and items needed throughout the masterclass, including products and tools Drew personally uses in her professional hairstyling kit.
2. Certificate of Completion: All students will receive a Sydney Hair & Makeup Co Beginner Hairstyling Masterclass Certificate of Completion.
